Effective Communication Between Nurses And Nurses

This paper will examine effective communication between the doctor and nurse working together to provide high quality, safe care. Nurses use a wide range of effective communication strategies and interpersonal skills to appropriately establish, maintain, re-establish and terminate the nurse-client relationship (College of Nurses of Ontario [CNO], 2009). While nurses and physicians are key members of the health care team facilitate quality care, many studies show breakdown in nurse-physician communication remains concern. The three barriers to nurse and physician communication are: traditional†¦show more content†¦There are several literatures discussing issues that contribute to ineffective communication between the physician and nurse. According to Curtis Tzannes (2011), the level of education attained by practising nurses directly i nfluences their perceived assertiveness, an attribute believed to be linked to nursing advocacy competencies (p.3).Physicians and nurse have vast educational differences. Training and education create vital differences in the way in which people perceive each other and the world about them. A study of the effect of professional training upon clinical case description found that the major biases developed by different training produced selective observations which then resulted in differing assessments of the concerns of the patient. In many contexts, nurses provide the vast majority of healthcare and have responsibilities for patients. Physician and nurse communication in developed nations reported that nurses have difficulty in voicing their concerns or opinions directly, particular if it involves contradiction or criticism of doctors or other health care professionals (Robinson, Gorman, Geraldine, Slimmer, Yudkowsky Rachel, 2010). In a study, participants expressed that derisio n contributed to ineffective communication. These ineffective communications often included humiliation and making nurses feel incompetent (Robinson et al., 2010). The tactics resulted in making members of one profession feel less than

The Civil Rights Movement - 1286 Words

The Civil Rights movement is one of the most important acts to change the way not only African Americans were able to live their lives but all races and colors. It would slowly break down the social, economic, political, and racial barriers that were created by the The Age of Discovery and Transatlantic Slave trade. I believe without the Civil Rights acts our country would result to be no better than what it was when the Emancipation Proclamation just took effect. In the 1950s and long before, Southern folk, who were white had created a system that would interpret them as a superior race over blacks. The system would defend whites rights and privileges from being taken away from them while establishing terrible inhumane suffering for African Americans. In the South blacks were controlled in all aspects economic, political, and personal, this was called a â€Å"tripartite system of domination† - (Aldon D. Rocket to the Moon Rocket to the Moon

Rocket to the Moon Rocket to the Moon -Romare BeardenRomare Bearden Essay There are many famous paintings in the world today that are created by different artists. Each one of them tells a story or narrative, the paintings are put together in many ways by the color, shape, and style. Most of the paintings even shows symbolism to the meaning of the artwork. The painting I chose was Rocket to the Moon created by Romare Bearden a famous artists in 1971. This painting is different from others, because its a collage of different pictures used to make this painting. Also the painting I chose have many different colors, shapes, different styles and it even show a little symbolism. Rocket to the Moon tells a little story or narrative that shows self-expression. We will write a custom essay on Rocket to the Moon Rocket to the Moon -Romare BeardenRomare Bearden specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now To me the story seems to be about the life and struggle of African Americans in the inner cities. I say this, because of the big buildings, lights, and the images of the black people in the collage. The city the painting seems like its trying to explain, looks like the city of Chicago to me. I say Chicago of many cities, because its known to have many black people struggling there and by the way the city looks with the big buildings. The painting could even be about the roaring 20s of African Americans or in other words the Harlem Renaissance. The roaring 20s is known for rural life and urban life, jazz, African American music, and even paintings. If you look close into the painting you could see some of those things. For example, the big buildings could represent the rural and urban life back then. When you look at this collage you can see the many different shapes, color, and texture of how this picture is put together. The shapes that are used in this painting seems to be positive because it catches your eye to make you be more focus on the shapes used. There are a lot of shapes used because there are a lot of boundaries which are separated from what surrounds the picture. As you look at the collage you can tell it has actual lines. For example it has horizontal, vertical, and even diagonal lines to actually bring the art work out. The colors used are mainly dark dull colors. There are not that many bright colors used besides light blue, thats used in the little caution light in the painting. As you look at the painting you notice it contains many visual tools. As you look at the lines in the collage you could see that some suggest motion. For example the rocket in the picture seems to look like its moving, because of the way the lines are formed. The buildings, the shape of the moon, and the collages of the people can be considered implied lines, because it forms geometric shapes. The mood of the painting is more of a calm and depressed scene. I say this because of the colors that are used in the painting. The color it mainly contains are dark brown, light brown, dark blue, black and some cool colors. The painting also contains a monochromatic color scheme used to make the sky. This is also another thing that could set the mood of the painting. Most monochromatic color scheme are used in paintings to set that certain mood. Another visual tool used in this painting is light. The direction of light can affect the way things can appear in a painting. The cut out images of the African American people and the buildings can be consider chiaroscuro, because the shading is from light to dark. The lighting of the picture makes the shape and color more visible. The design of the painting is sort of a simple design, because its a collage. As you look at the design of a painting, it could consists of the color, direction, point, and even size of the painting. The painting Rocket to the Moon contains all of these types of designs. .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d , .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d .postImageUrl , .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d , .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d:hover , .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d:visited , .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d:active { border:0!important; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d:active , .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc33f85caa60ec11a9e43df909d51e51d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Madonna Enthroned painting EssayThe buildings in this painting can be consider a rough texture because of the bricks used to build the building. As you look into the painting you can see the direction of how the collage is going. The painting is slanted towards the right a little. I say this, because as you look at the items in the picture its looks to be slanted. Direction in paintings can also give the paintings a mood. For example, the strong horizontal lines of the buildings give a feeling of stillness and calm. Another example, the diagonal lines of the rocket in the sky reinforce the feeling of movement. As you look and stare at most paintings you notice each one has a little meaning to it. Not only does it have a meaning, but most objects artists paints in a painting symbolizes a certain thing. In Rocket to the Moon it could mean plenty of things to different people. As I take time to look at the painting, different meanings comes to my head about this picture. The first thing I notice is that its a collage of African Americans in a city with a caution light on red. To me this painting means African Americans are struggling in a city with economic problems or is having some kind of problem in the city. This painting contains many objects that could symbolize a certain thing. The rocket in this painting can symbolize African Americans trying escape from there situation in the city. The pictures of the black people can symbolize everyday rituals of African Americans rural life in the south and urban life in the north cities. As I look at the painting I notice one of those people looks like Martin Luther King Jr. this could symbolize the dream of them escaping there problems in the city, because he always had dream things would be better. I chose Rocket to the Moon by Romare Bearden, because the collage of the painting caught my eyes. There is more focus on detail and color on the front portion of the painting rather than the back cityscape. Most paintings I have seen before are not like this one. Also I chose this one, because it really showed how African Americans are struggling in most cities. The colors in this painting really make you pay close attention to what is really going on. I like the way there are geometric shapes in this painting, because you can see the two-dimensions easier. Overall this is a great painting by Romare Bearden. You can tell he reflected his life in this painting of a collage of different things put together.

Law and Justice in Ancient Societies

In the ancient world, law and justice was used to maintain peace and harmony between people living in different societies. These laws were used to judge citizens of territories where ancient empires had acquired authority to administer as the dominant source of government.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Law and Justice in Ancient Societies specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Ancient laws and justice systems were influenced by religious doctrines, where the elite were given more protection compared to common citizens. In these societies laws were used to protect interests of the elite from any form of violation by people from lower classes. This paper will discuss how law and justice was applied in ancient societies by analyzing the Twelve Tables in Ancient Rome and The Laws of Hammurabi in Ancient Babylon. Twelve Tables The Twelve Tables in Ancient Rome served as the foundation of Roman law and was formed to govern how the Roman Republic was ruled. They were influenced by unwritten customary laws which were observed by Roman citizens in different parts of the empire. Before the formation of these laws, there were a lot of class struggles between aristocrats and working class citizens of the empire. In essence, the Twelve Tables were a set of rules that were used to govern Roman citizens by the empire’s rulers. The structure adopted for these laws was similar to ancient Greek laws even though they were written in Latin. They were publicly displayed for all Roman citizens to read and understand. They conferred different penalties depending on the nature of the offence committed, severity and the social status of the offender.Advertising Looking for essay on ancient history? They consisted of statutes that set norms and practices all citizens in the empire were required to observe. Significance of Each Table They are widely regarded as the foundation of modern law because they sought to address various legal and justice issues in ancient Rome. The first table enforced the supreme authority of the court. Any person summoned had to appear before the magistrate and if he failed, he would be brought to court by force. It also stipulated that an accused person court had a right to an advocate with a similar social status. Therefore, conflicting parties were required to present their issues in a trial, where a judge would administer a final ruling. The second table outlined penalties for various offences committed by Roman citizens. A free citizen found guilty of theft was flogged and ordered to repay stolen items to the owner while a slave found guilty of theft was sentenced to death by getting thrown off a cliff. The third table dealt with fraud and required th at a person accused of engaging in fraudulent acts pay double the amount he had taken to compensate the aggrieved party. This had to be repaid within thirty days, failure to which the guilty party was required to perform free hard labor for sixty days or become a slave.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Law and Justice in Ancient Societies specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The fourth table mandated that a father had the right to sell his own children as slaves. If a father sold a child more than three times, he was considered a free citizen who was no longer under his father’s authority. The law also stipulated that fathers had a right to kill their deformed children after birth. The fourth law demonstrates how fathers were given absolute powers over their families. The fifth table gave men the power of guardianship over females irrespective of their age. During marriage, a woman and her guardian had to agre e before any dowry payments were made. The law also recognized the legality of a will left by a deceased person and any division of possessions left by the deceased had to be done in accordance to his will. The sixth table required that a formal agreement between a seller and a buyer be recorded before any commercial land transaction was done. The agreement between parties involved was legally binding and they were all supposed to respect it. A woman was given rights of ownership over her husband’s property if she had proof that they had stayed together for more than one year. This law also required men to show valid reasons that made them divorce their wives before their wishes could be granted. Table seven outlined property planning laws which all citizens were required to observe during construction of their buildings. The law mandated that a property owner had to build his building several feet apart from the next building taking into consideration roads that were used fo r passage.Advertising Looking for essay on ancient history? Table eight prohibited citizens from writing libelous statements and any person found guilty of writing these statements was sentenced to death by clubbing. A thief found guilty of stealing another person’s property at night was sentenced to death. The law also banned citizens from holding seditious meetings at night. The ninth table mandated that all statutes applied to all Roman citizens equally irrespective of their status. Judges who were found guilty of receiving bribes and other favors were condemned to death. The tenth table outlawed all funeral ceremonies within walls of the city. The law also valued the importance of oath taking by citizens because the act showed a strong sense of duty to the empire. Table eleven mandated that crucial laws in the empire could only be adopted after all citizens had app roved them through voting. This law also upheld that senators were not allowed to get married to common citizens. The twelfth table prohibited any form of sacred rituals being done in a property that had ownership disputes. The law also assigned responsibility to the owner of a slave who damaged the property of a fellow Roman citizen. The twelve tables were comprehensive because they addressed all legal and justice issues that were deemed important by Roman citizens. They were obtained from common customary law and touched on civil issues, public affairs, religious matters and property laws. Hammurabi’s Laws The Code of Hammurabi was used in ancient Babylon during Hammurabi’s reign as king from 1792 to 1750. Hammurabi was motivated to codify more than 280 laws which were used to govern the territory that was under his authority. These laws were borrowed from ancient Mesopotamian customs and they were used to maintain law and order in the area. Hammurabi had a vision of uniting all city-states that were under his domain and to achieve his goal, he used a set of laws to unify all people in different city states in the empire. The preamble to these laws outlines the importance of a just society that does not have wicked people to ensure the weak are adequately protected. Hammurabi’s laws were used to regulate different activities in Babylon and they made all citizens understand their legal obligations in the empire. Some of the laws contained in the code served brutal punishments to offenders. They were used to deter Hammurabi’s subjects from engaging in any acts that were either deemed immoral or illegal. Hammurabi’s laws conferred harsh sentences both to the elite and common folk, though slaves that broke the law received more severe penalties because they were considered inferior beings. For instance people who were found guilty of robbing fellow citizens were sentenced to death. The code also had a law that punished children who fought with their fathers. A child who was accused of beating up his father had his hands chopped off for disobedience. A slave who was found guilty of speaking disrespectfully to his master was punished by having one ear chopped off. Hammurabi’s laws were harsher compared to the twelve Roman laws. However, both sets of laws were heavily influenced by cultural customs and penalties administered were influenced by the social status of an offender. Hammurabi laws were vindictive and they were used to carry out vengeance against persons found guilty of various offences. Babylon and other ancient societies equaled the concept of vengeance with justice. Slaves were not given adequate protection and any person who was found sheltering a runaway slave was sentenced to death. Freemen were prohibited from encouraging slaves to disobey or escape from their owners’ homes and any person found guilty of this crime was sentenced to death. The law also set clear responsibilities which property owners were supposed to adhere to during construction. The law also stipulated that a man who rents land from another man for farming bears all liabilities sustained by his crops before harvest. Therefore, the owner of the land is not required to compensate the tenant if his crops get destroyed by bad weather. The law also set clear issues that deal with marriage, women’s rights and divorce. The code stipulated that men who abandoned their wives could not claim their rights as husbands after their wives had been courted by other men. It also mandated that a wife accused of being unfaithful or disrespectful to her husband will be made to go back to her father’s house. It also imposed stiff penalties on women that were openly found to be unfaithful to their husbands. They were sentenced to death by drowning. Hammurabi’s laws imposed stiff penalties depending on the status of the person accused of committing a particular crime. They were influenced greatly by religious beliefs in ancient Babylon. Conclusion In conclusion, the two sets of laws administered different forms of punishments to people who had been accused of violating them. The twelve tablets allowed accused persons the right to have an advocate during trial to enable them prove their innocence. Hammurabi’s laws were more vindictive and they were used to make ancient Babylonians submit to the authority of their king. Religion and traditional customary practices influenced the formation and application of these laws in the two ancient empires. Social Theories essays

Social Theories essays Sociology has been defined s the scientific study of human interaction and, as such, is accepted as a scientific activity (Leming 1997). Social science aims at discovering and explaining observed events of and in nature by means of a framework that can be tested. The goal of sociology is, therefore, to produce a body of knowledge that will provide a body of knowledge that will provide not only an understanding of the causal processes influencing human behavior but also enable sociologists to predict social behaviors (Leming). As a science, it pursues observable and provable regularities and explains these regularities by means of a set of observable and provable propositions or statements of relationship (Leming). The very effectiveness or success of sociology lies precisely in the explanatory and predictive power of this body of knowledge derived from The basic components or elements of a theory are a conceptual scheme, a set of propositions that states the relationships between variables, and a context for verification (Leming). The conceptual scheme consists of ideas that possess abstract properties not yet immediately verifiable by direct sensory observation. It also has a system of interrelated statements of relationships between variables, which seam the parts of the concept together. The conceptual scheme and the statements of relationships are joined together and organized under a paradigm (Leming). A paradigm is the basic image of a particular subject matter within a science and serves as context for the verification (Leming 1997). It defines what should be studied and asked, how the questions should be posed and the rules to observe in interpreting the answers that will be obtained. Achieving a product that would allow the transparent qualities of glass and still offer protection from lethal products such as bullets was a milestone achievement. Such is observed as an infusion of the bullet being a technology perceived under the same field of material science (Hsieh & U.S. Army Research Laboratory, 2004). Ballistic glass involves the infusion of two sets of materials that do not include the renown Kevlar used in the generation of bullet proof vest. The technology combines thermoplastics with the soft glass to allow a thick layer of ballistic panels. The aforementioned incorporation of different approaches ensures that the glass panes are ballistic and durable. The ballistic glass has found critical applications in banking and transit sectors. The glass is used in developing the teller stations in banking halls. It is, also used in developing armored vehicles, which aim to protect the users while driving in volatile locations.
